Common Sense Gun Reform

Protecting Rights. Preventing Tragedies.

America has always thrived by balancing individual freedoms with collective responsibility. That same principle applies to our Second Amendment rights.

As a veteran, a parent, and a proud supporter of the Constitution, I support the right of law-abiding citizens to own firearms. I also believe we can take reasonable, common-sense steps to keep our communities safe and prevent gun violence—without infringing on the rights of responsible gun owners.

As an Independent, I’m not interested in political extremes or soundbites. I’m focused on pragmatic solutions that respect the Constitution while protecting our children, our schools, and our neighborhoods from preventable tragedies.

Here’s what I support:

Raising the Minimum Age for Certain Firearms

Most Americans agree: an 18-year-old shouldn’t be able to buy a semi-automatic rifle before they can legally buy a beer. Young people in crisis are more prone to impulsive decisions. Raising the age for certain purchases is a reasonable step to help keep guns out of the wrong hands.

Limiting High-Capacity Magazines

High-capacity magazines let shooters fire dozens of rounds without pausing. Limiting their use doesn’t prevent law-abiding citizens from defending themselves—but it can give potential victims and law enforcement valuable seconds that could save lives.

Tackling Gun Trafficking

Illegal gun trafficking affects big cities and small towns alike. We need to enforce and strengthen laws that go after traffickers and straw purchasers who funnel firearms into the wrong hands.

Promoting Safe Storage

As someone who grew up around firearms and served in combat zones, I believe strongly in responsible gun ownership—and that includes safe, secure storage. Especially in homes with children, storing firearms properly can prevent heartbreaking accidents and reduce the risk of theft and misuse.

Supporting Background Checks

Most gun owners already agree: we need universal background checks. Closing loopholes in private sales and gun shows isn’t about punishing lawful owners—it’s about making sure those with a violent history or severe mental illness don’t slip through the cracks.

Implementing Red Flag Laws

Red flag laws give families and law enforcement a tool to step in when someone poses a clear danger to themselves or others. These laws must include due process and accountability—but they’ve already saved lives in the states where they’re used responsibly.

What I Oppose:

I do not support blanket bans that criminalize responsible gun owners or undermine the Second Amendment. We don’t need to choose between rights and safety—we can honor both.

Bottom Line:

The vast majority of gun owners in this country are responsible, law-abiding citizens. Our policies should reflect that. This isn’t about taking guns away from good people. It’s about keeping weapons away from those who would use them to do harm—and doing everything we can to prevent the next tragedy before it happens.
