Research Associate

Ty Pinkins for U.S. Senate is seeking a Research Associate. The Research Associate is a key part of a successful research department, where we will develop strong, fact-based messaging that helps inform and persuade voters. The Research Associate will conduct research on public records, news clips, and other sources to produce memos and reports for internal and external messaging.

 

The ideal candidate is a self-starter with strong, clear writing and research skills, with a sharp eye for precision and detail. Applicants should be responsive, passionate, and determined workers who can proactively solve problems and identify research opportunities, and who have experience working in a fast-paced environment that requires accurate work on tight deadlines. The Research Associate will often be working on multiple projects at once, so the ability to manage competing priorities and work proactively is key.

 

Previous political or campaign experience is certainly a plus but we encourage applicants with experience from relevant fields—journalism, policy, legal studies, etc.—to apply. Entry level applicants will be considered.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Conduct research using public records, news clips, campaign finance reports, travel records, disclosures, and research databases to create cohesive narratives for campaign earned and paid media

  • Draft research memos, rapid response documents, and fact-checking reports on deadline with attention to detail and precision

  • Monitor incoming press coverage, social media traffic, online updates, video uploads, public event announcements, and other relevant updates and creating accompanying materials (i.e., transcripts, research memos, etc.) as needed

  • Conduct vetting and fact-checking exercises, as needed

 

SKILLS

 

  • Strong writing, research, and communication skills, with ability to connect the dots and accurately translate complex information into clear, concise writing under tight turnarounds

  • Sharp political judgment and instincts, including awareness of current U.S. politics

  • Familiarity with campaign research and a desire to grow these skills is a plus; 

  • Relevant experience would include work in journalism, policy, legal studies, communications, etc.

  • Familiarity with public records tools and political research tools a plus
